Kayaking is primarily an upper-body sport, but it also works the muscles of the center of your body, back, and stomach. Kayaking burns about 350-400 calories per hour. By paddling at a pace that becomes a cardio workout, you can double the amount of calories burned. Pulling the paddle against the water is great resistance. You target your shoulders, triceps, biceps, back, and core; resulting in a sculptured upper body.
Beginners should start by taking a guided class at our 3 mile location. You'll learn paddling technique, how to read the river and what to do for problems that may occur. Note: the guide will remain at the back of the group; beginners will not “be left behind”. |

To Schedule a Class: Classes are available for groups of 3 or more. The classes must be reserved in advance. Please call or email to schedule.
*Due to possible changes in river conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, please call to check on each day’s class availability
We will start sharply as we will transport up river. A release of liability waiver must be signed so please arrive 15 minutes before class. A demonstration for beginners and a brief safety talk followed by a 10 minute warm-up will start the trip. Expect about 30 minutes of paddling.

Beginner kayaker’s may fatigue early because they rely mostly on their arms rather than their core. To prepare your body for kayaking, pay attention to working out your shoulders, abs, and lower back. It's also important to work on your flexibility. Pilates and yoga are helpful for this. Dress comfortably, wearing a swimsuit or shorts, and sandals. Bring sunglasses, water bottle, towel and dry clothes to change into after the workout.
If you love the water, wildlife, and sunshine, kayaking is a fun and scenic way to workout.
